Manifest!

Yep, it’s the time of year again where crazy people dress up as crazy people, cross-dressing increases in frequency, and you can take photos of strangers without getting arrested. I didn’t dress up as a crazy person but I was wearing my Kyo hat. But they were selling the hats there so by the end of the day, my “costume” was no longer original. Madman should have given me freebies for promoting them so well 😉

I caught up with my friends and bitched about how poorly organised Manifest is. And spent a lot of money. I had a lot of self-control but that was because I’m up-to-date with my mangas and the stall selling cute Mario mushroom plushies didn’t take EFTPOS.

There were some really great costumes. I didn’t get to take as many photos but all of my photos turned out good. Unlike last year when most of my photos were crap. Moral of the story – Samsung rocks, Sony fails.

First up, my fav. of the year. Those hands are awesome. No idea what she’s from.

This girl didn’t make her costume but I like it. No idea what she’s from.

This was my first photo of the day. Howl from Howl’s Moving Castle.Looking at the photo now, I swear that I took a photo of this guy last year .

Chopper from One Piece.

The classic girls dressing up as guys who are twins and pretend that they are in a relationship…

I think this is from Angel Sanctuary. I’ve never read the manga but for some reason I have the artbook.

And the Sunday winner of the cosplay comp. No idea what he’s from

Manifest – the cosplay

I want to say a few things before I talk about Manifest.

I just got Super Paper Mario. The selling price is $99 but Kmart offered it for $69. I went there and they didn’t have it so I went to EBgames (who are rip-off merchants) and got them to price-match.
Finally, a good (I hope) Wii game has come out. Now I own 3 games, bringing the household total to 5. Now I want MySims, Mario Galaxy (not out yet), Smash Brothers (not out yet) and Resident Evil (not out yet). Hopefully at great deals.
But I can’t play Paper Mario yet because it’s a birthday present from mum, who is currently in Tassie for a mosaic conference.

I have a phd project. The other person interested in the Tassie project I wanted took another project and the guy said that I could have it and do most of it in Melbourne. So not only can I stay here but I get trips to Tassie (and there was some mention something about the ocean too). Now all I have to do is get a scholarship…crap…

I have the date for my department talk – October 8th. Crap…

So, Manifest. There are never as many cosplayers on the last day but I still got a good look at a fair few. There was a whole bunch of One Piece cosplayers but I couldn’t get shots of them. At least I got Shanks.

I’m not a fan of SailorMoon (though I was in primary school). I thought this was a guy, which was why I took the photo. But then the person spoke and turned out to be a girl. Oops…

I haven’t playe Phoenix Wright but I’ve heard about it and seen references and this guy was funny. It’s now my sig for DSA.

I love Ouran High.

Some characters from Soul Calibur 2. These costumes are so cool but the photo was too dark, I had to play around a lot so that the detail was visible.

I use to watch Transformers as a really young kid but I can’t remember it now. But my sister’s boyfriend likes Transformers so I took the shot for him.

I’ve been watching Tsubasa Chronicles so I had to get a shot of these guys. Faye was around somewhere but I missed him/her (girl dressed up as a guy).

Yoshi and some random person. She could be a character from Dead or Alive 4, I’m not sure.

Finally, some random block guy. I have seen this character/thing around but I have no idea what it’s from. Apparently the guy has a fan in there to keep him cool.

Manifest – the merchandise

It was nice that Manifest was at Uni – easy to get to and I knew where everything was. What was annoying was the lines. I had to wait an hour to get my pass, wait forever to get into the Cosplay competition (and we only just made it into the back, man it was packed) and wait a while to get into Iron Chef.Iron Chef was great. People were given clips and then had 24hrs to make a music clip with them. The secret ingedient this year was manga scans and the contestants had a bitch of a time working it into the clip. Most people “cheated” by having it at the start, before the proper clip. But one person incorporated it so well, with Dr Who music. She was the best out of them all but it wasn’t finished so she didn’t win.
I did manage to spend $50-70AU on cool stuff. Apparently, there weren’t as many stalls as there usually are. A bit dissappointing but probably just as well, less things to tempt me.

I only got a few things from the proper business stalls. I wanted at least one figure and one soft toy but the figures were expesive and the soft toys weren’t to my taste. I was actually going to go back and get small Tsubasa Chronicle figures for $10 each in the hope that it would be discounted at the end of the day but all the stalls had packed up.
I did get more Ouran High manga and a cool Mario ? cube. I saved $15 in total, which was nice. Apparently, volume 22 of Fruits Basket was also for sale but they ran out on Saturday. Looks like I’ll have to wait until its official release.

There were a few artists there as well. Mainly fanart but there were a few original artists. But only one original artist stood out to me and I got that straight away. It’s so pretty. And her DA page is written on them so I can go check her out online.

I have seen this person’s DA account before but I didn’t realise (or I had forgotten) that she was Australian. That was a nice surprise because I adored her Fruits Basket chibis. Also, if you said “I choose you Pikachu” then you got a free Pikachu badge (the angry one is so cute). But it did mean that they took a photo of me…

Finally, we were wondering around while they were closing and one of the people said that I could get a discount. So I got these four Ouran High prints for only $9. Unfortunately, I forgot to ask what her DA account was.

And this is a long post so I’ll save the cosplay pictures for my next post.
